When spruce, rose and reeds meet on the shore, three different edges merge.
Lightning By Any Other Name
To the spruce, the edge of the lake is the edge of wet earth. It just can’t walk any further. To the rose, the spruce is the edge between light and protection, always a great place to hang out. To the reeds, it is the edge of shallow water, which puts it as the water sister of the spruce. Put all together, the lakeshore is a space of light that calls these edges forth, which is why in German, a clearing is a Lichtung, a space of lightening, and so it is.
