Ancient Waves Live On

These drainage waves were formed 10,000 years ago when a lake as large as a sea filling the valley below my house drained in half a day. They are still catching sun and water, in the forms of heat and cold..p1480024

In other words, the lake is still alive. It only seems so long ago because of our individual life times and generational change… but it’s still that moment long ago. Wondrous!

The Sun Doesn’t Fall

This is not a metaphor.p1470521

It is a projection.p1470523

Across 135,000,000 kilometres of travel through emptiness, the sun reforms.p1470527

The earth focusses it.p1470528

Call that fire, that ancient word for coals: red.p1470529

Call that life. It melts the cold.

p1470536

That you cannot see the leaf-shaped sun that forms inside the snow and seeks out the earth, doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

p1470524

Let’s set the idea of dead matter aside and go back to the earth.

The Sun at Work

The sun reveals the shape of darkness.p1270324

That’s its work. With light, heat, radiation and even gravity, that’s what it does. The earth rises to it.

p1250425

Even when it falls.
trail

Movement is not necessary, but when we make it, as we have on the trail at Palouse Falls above, we make it in the sun, as darkness. Things are what they are.

p1260986

So are we. To be the sun is to give praise.

The Bears of the Sun

Meet my friend kinnikinnik. She lives in the sun. See how the sun that this boulder catches in the early spring keeps her warm nights, so she can set and ripen her fruits?P1210071

It’s no surprise that boulder-shaped bears like them, not to mention that, although they’re dry, they taste like the sweetest taste of rose petals on the spring air.P1220635

Bears are smart. Kinnikinnik is smart, too. Boulders aren’t too shabby, either. All of them are sharing the sun they live in. They are the sun.
