The Grass at Dawn

At sunrise, the bunchgrass shows itself most clearly…

… and it’s pink!

But look at the sage and the lichens, those pools of pale blue-green algae (well, sort of)…

It is in this low light that they glow. This is their hour.

The grass has similar secrets in these few minutes when the sun is rising over the land.

This is the great promise.

Those sunny, west-facing slopes are much-favoured, yet it seems that the cold, east-facing ones are essential to survival — of plants, and you, too.
