Whatever else 12 foot tall fences are for, they are not to keep deer out of orchards.
Here, you can see that the goal is to keep the neighbours out. With their peach trees. You can’t trust peach pickers. Deer, however, you can trust any day. Interestingly enough, the peach orchard has its own fence, but the deer never breach it. This makes me wonder why the peach orchard has a fence, but that’s the other thing about fences. They’re status symbols. Simply essential wardrobe items.

Many of the cherry orchards (newly planted, newly acquired) are being fenced off here too. Sigh.
