This is Pahto, mistakenly called Mount Adams. She is one of the wives of the sun. Look at her rising like the sun over the White Swan plain. We’re a long way from the Snake River of yesterday, but she makes a good point about reading the earth. Take a look.
See that? No? Look again.
She has a blowhole on the top of her head! That’s one way you can tell she’s not a human. Call her a mountain, if you like, but the Yakima Valley is hers. So are you if you walk there. Walk like you have a predator and a benefactor. Walk with that respect. Like a hawk, she might take you at any moment. Or she might not.
