We need a new owner’s manual to the earth. For instance, vineyards are not about the sun. The darned vines spend as much time in the snow as they do with grapes on the vine.

Similarly, the desert is not about the sun. Most of the year here, it’s about snow and cloud. The desert is not a result of weather. It’s a result of mountains and air pressure. That’s cool. Here’s what it looks like today.
And that’s the other neat thing: the earth is not as cold as the comic books tell us. Doubt it? Ask the neighbours. They know.
