Sunflower Climbs the Smoke to the Sky

As you can see, as the forests burn up in all directions the new normal around here is for a sky other than blue. My sunflowers can find the Earth still, though.

But the sun?

This is what you get when you cross a Giant Russian sunflower with a black bird seed sunflower, and then leave it to its own devices while the world burns.

Look at this one try! It put out one big head in May, nice and early, and I thought it was done, but it just kept pushing out new stalks straight up, looking for light. The top one is well over 3 metres up there. It looks successful, too, doesn’t it.
