You know there is a little bit of the grassland left when you find some needle-and-thread grass on a hill.
It’s almost invisible, but when the light is right, in the low late-afternoon sun, you might get lucky.
Beautiful as it rides the wind.
Soon, the seeds will hang on the long stalks by their threads and the heating and cooling of the sun will twist them into the soil crust.
Life without needle-and-thread grass would be a poverty of darkness.

Okanagan Okanogan 
There are a few areas near us in central Colorado where thie grass grows in thick stands. When it is moving in the wind the sight is mesmerizing.
