Whose Apples Are They Anyway?

In Canada, the apple’s desire to attract animals is put behind fences. Should any animal get in other than a human, it is killed. The law allows for this. The apple, however, wants everyone to come by.

Bears, bees, deer, horses, birds, humans, mice, everybody. Here’s what that looks like, in the home of apples, the apple forests of Khazakstan.

No fences. What’s more, bears selected these apples for sweetness, over long periods of time.

Shamefully, we claim them as our own.
